  • Lithics, as the earliest record of human material culture, furnishes cornucopia information for the archaeologists and paleoanthropologists. The laboratory is currently testing lithics including knapped tools, grinding tools, as well as those closely related to the archaeological site though with unknown function. The analysis will focus on plant residues remaining on the surface of lithics. Lithics of any raw materials can be tested. However, please head that some specimen influenced by all kinds of natural wearing during burial will produce different degrees of weathering traces. When such severe weathered specimens are examined in the preliminary sampling process, some rock particles may fall apart due to the ultrasonic vibrations. This is prone to happen with lithics made of coarse quartz sandstone, shale and the like.
  • Pottery appeared in the history of Earth during the last phase of the Pleistocene. Holocene has witnessed continuous advancements on the production technology of pottery. Various ceramics, as containing, storing, and religious worshipping tools, are closely related to archaeological sites in different historical periods. The laboratory is currently testing pottery of all kinds. The analysis will focus on plant residues remaining on the surface of pottery and can provide scientific evidence of the function of the pottery. Please head that some specimen influenced by all kinds of natural wearing during burial will produce different degrees of weathering traces. When such severe weathered specimens are examined in the preliminary sampling process, some pottery particles may fall apart due to the ultrasonic vibrations. Please pay more attention during the sending process and shipment and make detailed communication with our lab consultant.
  • The laboratory is currently testing teeth of humans and animals from archaeological sites in different periods of time. Animal teeth include primarily, but not limited to all kinds of domesticated animals, wild herbivores and omnivores. The analysis will focus on plant residues remaining on the surface of the teeth and can provide scientific evidence of the ancient plant diet. Please head that the degrees of petrification vary; many are not at all petrified. When such specimens are examined in the preliminary sampling process, due to the ultrasonic vibrations, some teeth originally embedded in the upper and lower jaw may loosen, or even fall off, and the loosening and falling degree is inestimable before the examination is conducted.
  • Apart from lithics, pottery, as well as the teeth, many other types of wools and remains, which may be closely entangled with plant materials, can be found at archaeological sites, such as bamboo or wooden tools, bone and antler tools, teeth tools, mussel tools and the like. The laboratory receiving the specimens was detected residue plant surface. When such severe weathered specimens are examined in the preliminary sampling process, some particles may fall apart due to the ultrasonic vibrations and thus bring about slight loss of the sample.
